On 6 January at 6pm at Palácio Anjos, take part in the pop-up visit to Paula Rego’s work with Catarina Alfaro, and the guided tour with Marta Crawford, founder of Musex, author of the Amor Veneris – Journey to Female Sexual Pleasure concept and co-curator.

Paula Rego’s work is marked by themes related to the feminine and to childhood. Through her art, the artist has always expressed her political ideals, namely with regard to the domination of the female body by women, violent or not, and also to the world of children, childish and playful. In the series, of which the work “Excision” is part, Paula Rego denounces excision or female genital mutilation through a series of narratives that depict different moments of violence. The first painting of the series concerns exactly the “Excision” in which it is possible to observe the moment preceding the mutilation.

Catarina Alfaro is the Programming and Conservation Coordinator of the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, where she is curator, researcher, author and editor. Master in Museology and Heritage, she has developed a research work on themes of Modern and Contemporary Art.

The visits require the purchase of a ticket for the exhibition (5 eur) and the collection of a ticket at the ticket office of the Anjos Palace, 1 hour before the beginning of the visit. The visit has a maximum capacity of 20 people.
